Citrus County Golf

Citrus County Florida on the Gulf Coast of Mexico has often been referred to as the "Golf Coast" with over 20 world-caliber golf courses in the nearby area. In recent years Golf Digest Magazine has ranked five of the Citrus County golf courses in the top 100 courses in the United States.

These decidedly exceptional courses include Southern Woods Golf and Country Club, Black Diamond Ranch, El Diablo, and two courses at World Woods (Rolling Oaks and Pine Barrons). Southern Woods Golf and Country Club is located within Sugarmill Woods, an immaculate community in Homosassa, Florida. Southern Woods was nominated by Golf Digest Magazine as the Best New Private Course when it was opened.

Black Diamond Ranch is a private, upscale, gated community with the most unusual and challenging golf courses anywhere, offering 45 holes around a flooded quarry. The golf course was designed by Tom Fazio and features a hole on the floor of an abandoned limestone quarry providing breathtaking vistas. With the famous quarry course, Black Diamond is one of the top-ranked golf courses in the world.

In Brooksville, just south of Citrus County you will find World Woods Golf Club with two challenging 18-hole golf courses. World Woods, known as a world class practice facility was nominated by Sports Illustrated Magazine as "the best range in the world". At World Woods, the Pine Barrons course advertises “The final five holes could be the toughest stretch in the South.” Pine Barrons was ranked 9th in 1999. Additionally, Rolling Oaks was ranked 63rd in 1999.

You can not discus golf in Citrus County Florida without dwelling on Skyview at Terra Vista, and El Diablo Golf Club in Citrus Springs, the Dunes Golf Club at Seville, and Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club in Homosassa.

The Villages of Citrus Hills has a new sensational golf course, Skyview at Terra Vista of Citrus Hills. The Skyview golf course is located on the second highest elevation in Central Florida with stunning panoramas. Skyview has been referred to as the best "hidden secret" in Citrus County.

El Diablo, located in Citrus Springs Florida, forces you to bring on your best game. The El Diablo course is a challenge not soon forgotten. The course snakes through majestic oaks, thick pine forests and rolling hills.

With dramatic elevation changes, steep and deep bunkers, and greens as fast and undulating as any in Florida. El Diablo was referred to as “the best new affordable public golf course in America” by Golf Digest Magazine.

The Dunes Golf Course, in Brooksville, Florida, weaves through the densely wooded, beautiful terrain. And makes use of the naturally sandy soil and other natural features, this course will challenge your accuracy and consistency.

Sister to the Southern Woods Golf and Country Club, is the Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club both located in Homosassa, Florida. Sugarmill Woods actually offers three golf courses.

The Cypress Course, which has narrow fairways and is heavily bunkered. The Oaks Course is water free and more open than other courses.

Finally, the Pine Course is the longest of the three golf courses at Sugarmill Woods, and it demands accurate drives to avoid the many out-of-bounds areas.

Additional golf courses in the Citrus County area include the Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club, which offers two challenging courses (The Meadows and The Oaks), Twisted Oaks Golf Course in Beverly Hills, Citrus Springs Golf and Country Club, Lakeside Golf and Country Club in Inverness, Pine Ridge Golf and Country Club in Beverly Hills, which also offers two courses (an 18-hole and a 9-hole).

The Plantation Inn and Golf Resort and Seven Rivers Golf and Country Club both in Crystal River, Point O' Woods in Inverness, Rainbow Springs Golf and Country Club in Dunnellon, the Inverness Golf and Country Club, and Brentwood Farms Golf and Country Club.
